Lesson Four: There are times when it is best to make the first move

The example that was used for this lesson came from when our youngest son, Will was wrestling.

He was in an of the year tournament, his opponent got the first two points for the takedown. (This in the end was what won the match)Though you cannot always know the outcome of taking the bold initiative of approaching someone or a new sales opportunity without them approaching you first, but hay, if you don’t try, the one thing you will know is that you will not have earned the credit of having started the relationship. Don’t be afraid of making a mistake, you just might luck up and earn the two points.

I have reached out to several successful female business owners to ask them to mentor me in business. Of the five women I have approached, thus far only three have responded with get back to me or let’s talk about what you want to accomplish.  It just feels like Impostor Syndrome. Like maybe they don’t see themselves as I see them (assertive, confident, successful, knowledgeable; worthy of sharing their wisdom; I just thought that it would be easier for a woman to find another women to help them succeed.

As the old adage says: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
