Learning to Rise Above Like A Phoenix Rising From the Ashes

Rising above is difficult. It is hard to be the bigger person in a petty fight or to rise above the difficulties and face the hardships with our heads held high. There is an art to overcoming and embracing life challenges, similar to topics explained in the books of Karen R. Blake Author. Moreover, it is deemed a necessary skill for us to go through life with all its trials and tribulations.

What Does It Mean To Rise Above?

Simply put, rising above means learning to adapt and surmount despite your challenges. It is your ability to overcome life’s hardships and not allow a bad circumstance or another person’s behavior to affect the way that you view life or your outlook.

This means that learning to rise above is not just a skill but also hinges on fundamental values such as determination and resilience. Being able to rise above is not something we can easily do on the first try. Many people still struggle with it despite having gone through many challenges in the past.

This is because rising above means different things in different situations. For example, in an argument with a friend, sometimes rising above means not being petty with little things and letting go of their attitude or behavior because we understand why they acted that way. However, in a different circumstance, rising above could also mean pushing through a particular treatment plan assigned to us by our doctor despite it being difficult with several food and activity restrictions.

This means that rising above is not a one-size-fits-all skill. It does depend on the situation, and it is necessary to have the skills to assess what the situation calls for and what could possibly yield the best result.

How Do We Learn To Rise Above

Recognize What Grounds You

Understanding why we do things is more than just knowledge. It also reveals our motivation, objectives, and expectations. It is essential to recognize what grounds you because when you see your end goal, you are more likely to approach a situation with a plan to get to that finish line and rise above a seemingly difficult situation.

Many people pride themselves on being strictly pragmatic when it comes to making decisions, but no choice is made without feeling. Answering this question can teach you a lot about yourself and how you relate to a scenario, circumstance, or person.

Journey on The Road to Self-Discovery

Have a desire for the self-discovery that the experience can provide. Recognizing what grounds you is important, but this also includes understanding what values we find important and hold close to our hearts.

Staying on the sidelines and remaining ignorant of what we want is simple. It is the easy way out. But when you venture outside your comfort zone and into the realm of possibilities to discover what is important for you, you will find the most about life and yourself. You have to make this deliberate decision every day.

Give up trying to please others all the time.

We can never truly make everyone happy. No matter what we do, we will always encounter someone unhappy with what we do or say. Because of this, pleasing everyone is challenging, if not impossible. Letting go of others’ expectations of us and trying to make them happy will help us see the situation better and rise above what is happening around us. Moreover, this has not only been an essential aspect in rising above situations but has also become highly sought after as a characteristic of a good leader.

This is difficult for those who put a lot of effort into trying to please others. However, you will continually be tugged in different directions if you strive to please everyone. Attempt to respect God with your life and follow His instructions instead. This means that we trust His plan instead of allowing ourselves to be led in different path by other people.

Trust your intuition.

If you silence your voice of intuition for an extended period of time, you will learn to suppress it. Self-doubt can be haunting and cause us to get stuck in our worries and anxieties. When this happens, it is difficult for us to see the whole picture and rise above the situation to get through it.

You haven’t learned to trust your gut if you realize that you have many filters that make you feel immobilized by dread or lost in self-doubt. Remember that even a poor choice is not wasted if you learn from it. This means that we should not get lost in the fear of making mistakes but be more proactive in trusting ourselves and our decisions to rise above the difficulties we face.

Conclusion

Overall, there is great power when we can be like a phoenix that rises above the ashes amidst difficulties we will encounter. Challenges are inevitable,  but we can change our circumstance to rise above our current situation to achieve our goals and reach our fullest potential.
